Due to its excellent machinability, wear resistance, and ability to be heat-treated for enhanced properties. 5: Ultrasonic Test

EN10228-3 class III or Sep 1921-84 D/D

6:Steel making & Forging processing

1): Steel making process:

  EF+LF+VD

  EAF+LF+VD

  EF+LF+VD+ESR

  EAF+LF+VD+ESR

2): Forging processing:

Hot forging temperature: 800-1100℃. Should not exceed 1100 ℃, in order to prevent grain coarsening and δ ferrite formation.

Slow cooling, cooling in the furnace or in the sand.

7: Heat treatment

Annealed:

Heat 420 steel to 800-900℃

Cooling in the furnace (≤30°C/h) to below 600°C, followed by air cooling. Slow cooling is critical to avoid re-formation of martensite leading to hardness recovery.

Or heat 420 steel to 750℃

Cooling in the furnace or in the air

Quenching and tempering:

Heat 420 steel to 920-980℃

Cooling in the oil

Temper steel at 600-750℃, quick cooling

8:Application

420 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel with high hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Its main application areas are as follows:

1. Knives and Cutting Tools

1) Kitchen knives: kitchen knives, fruit knives, scissors.

2) Medical instruments: scalpels, dental instruments.

3) Industrial knives: paper cutters, razor blades, mold punches.

2. Machinery and industrial parts

1) Bearings and shafts.

2) Pump and valve parts: valve seats, pump shafts,.

3) Molds: plastic molds, die-casting molds.

3. Automotive & Aerospace

1) Fuel system parts: nozzles, fuel pump parts.

2) Aircraft parts: non-load-bearing structural parts (such as fasteners, brackets).
