HS6-5-3/1.3344 is a high-performance tungsten-molybdenum high-speed tool steel, specifically designed for cutting operations that demand extreme wear resistance and red-hardness under high mechanical and thermal loads. As a premium high-speed steel grade, its chemical composition is based on a balanced high carbon content (1.15–1.25%), combined with a rational proportion of alloying elements such as tungsten (5.90–6.70%), molybdenum (4.70–5.20%), vanadium (2.70–3.20%), and chromium (3.80–4.50%). This formulation ensures outstanding cutting performance and stability even under severe working conditions.

HS6-5-3/1.3344 is a high-carbon, high-tungsten alloy high-speed tool steel containing molybdenum and vanadium, conforming to the German standard DIN EN ISO 4957. It holds significant value in the fields of high-efficiency cutting and precision forming. Due to its excellent hot hardness, outstanding wear resistance, and good resistance to tempering softening, this material is an ideal choice for machining workpieces with high hardness and high wear resistance. HS6-5-3 steel is particularly suitable for manufacturing high-performance cutting tools, such as drills, milling cutters, and gear cutters used for processing stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels. It maintains a sharp cutting edge during both continuous and interrupted cutting operations, significantly enhancing machining efficiency and tool service life.

5: Ultrasonic Test

6:Steel making & Forging processing

1): Steel making process:

  EF+LF+VD

  EAF+LF+VD

  EF+LF+VD+ESR

  EAF+LF+VD+ESR

2): Forging processing:  

Initial temperature: 1000-1100℃

Final temperature: 950℃

Cooling in the furnace or in the sand

7: Heat treatment

1): Annealed:

Heat 1.3344 steel to 840-860℃

Cooling in the furnace. Cool to approximately 600 °C at a very slow rate (≤ 10 °C/hour).

2): Quenching and tempering:  

Heat 1.3344 steel to 1190-1210℃ in the salt bath furnace

Quench in the oil

Temper steel at 550-570℃ in the furnace

Cooling in the air.

8:Application

1.3344, a classic general-purpose high-vanadium high-speed steel, is widely used in tool manufacturing due to its excellent wear resistance, good toughness, and superior hot hardness. It is primarily used to manufacture cutting and forming tools that require extremely high wear resistance and must withstand certain impact forces. Its specific application categories are as follows:

1. Cutting Tools

1). Gear Machining Tools:

Hobs, gear shapers, gear shaving cutters: These are the most classic and core applications of 1.3344. They are used to machine hardened gear surfaces in industries such as automotive, wind power, and construction machinery, exhibiting excellent performance

2). High Wear-Resistant General-Purpose Tools:

  • Drills, taps, reamers, end mills: Especially suitable for machining difficult-to-machine materials such as stainless steel, alloy steel, and cast iron, exhibiting stable performance under low-speed or intermittent cutting conditions

  • Broaches, push cutters: Used for machining internal splines, irregular holes, etc., requiring extremely high dimensional accuracy and wear resistance

3). Complex Forming Tools:

Form turning tools, form milling cutters: Used for mass production of parts with specific contours; their wear resistance ensures tool life and dimensional consistency

2. Cold Working Dies and Wear-Resistant Parts

1). Stamping and Forming Dies:

  • Punches and dies: Used for stamping silicon steel sheets, thin steel plates, non-ferrous metals, etc., with a long service life

  • Cold heading and cold extrusion dies: Used for manufacturing standard parts such as bolts, nuts, and bearing rings, capable of withstanding high pressure and friction

2). Wear-Resistant Parts and Measuring Tools:

  • High-precision gauges, calipers, and plug gauges: Ensure dimensional stability under frequent use

  • Machine tool centers and guides: Mechanical parts requiring high hardness to resist wear
