C25E steel is a non-alloy quality carbon steel per EN 10250-2, characterized by a nominal carbon content of approximately 0.25%. Its chemical composition is balanced to provide moderate strength with good toughness. The carbon range is specified at 0.22–0.29%, with silicon up to 0.40% and manganese between 0.40% and 0.70%. Phosphorus and sulfur are controlled at maximum levels of 0.035% respectively to maintain cleanliness and fabricability. Residual elements including chromium, molybdenum, and nickel are each capped, with their combined total not exceeding 0.63%, ensuring consistent and predictable material performance.

Product Overview


C25E steel is a non-alloy quality carbon steel specified under EN 10250-2, with the material number 1.1158. It belongs to the unalloyed tempered steel family, designed for hardening and tempering treatments that achieve an optimal balance of strength and toughness.


The grade is also widely known by its DIN designation Ck25. With a nominal carbon content of approximately 0.25%, C25E offers moderate strength levels higher than low-carbon grades, while retaining good fabrication characteristics.

FAQ


Q1: What does E stand for in C25E?

A1: E means controlled sulphur and phosphorus range for improved internal quality and better response to quenching and tempering, compared with standard C25 steel.


Q2: What is the difference between C25E and Ck25?

A2: C25E is the modern EN ISO designation, while Ck25 is the old DIN grade. Both refer to the same material 1.1158 with similar chemical and mechanical requirements.


Q3: Can C25E be hardened?

A3: Yes. C25E is designed for quenching and tempering. It can reach moderate hardness after QT treatment, suitable for parts requiring balanced toughness and strength.


Q4: What is the difference between C25E and C45E?

A4: The primary difference is carbon content. C25E contains approximately 0.22–0.29% carbon, while C45E contains approximately 0.42–0.50% carbon. This difference affects hardness, strength, ductility and heat-treatment response.
