105V steel

105V / 1.2834 is a widely used cold work tool steel conforming to the German standard DIN EN ISO 4957. It is renowned for its high wear resistance, good toughness, and sufficient compressive strength. Due to its versatile properties and excellent machinability, many countries have steel grades equivalent to DIN 1.2834. For example, SKS43 in the Japanese standard JIS G4404.

1.2834 steel contains manganese, chromium, and tungsten, which act as strengthening elements. The addition of vanadium helps refine the grain structure, further enhancing wear resistance and toughness.

6:Steel making & Forging processing

1): Steel making process:

  EF+LF+VD

  EAF+LF+VD

2): Forging processing:  

Initial temperature: 1050-1100℃

Final temperature: 800-850℃

Cooling in the furnace or in the sand

7: Heat treatment

1): Annealed:

Heat 1.2834 steel to 770-800℃

Slowly Cooling in the furnace

2): Quenching and tempering:  

Heat 1.2834 steel to 780-800℃ in the salt bath furnace

Quench in the water

Temper steel at 170-190℃ in the furnace

Cooling in the air.

8:Application

1.2834 is a versatile oil-hardening or air-hardening cold-work tool steel, whose core application lies in its excellent balance of wear resistance and toughness. Primary application areas:

1. Cold-work dies

  • Punching dies: Punches, dies, and liners for punching thin to medium-thick plates, particularly suitable for processing low-carbon steel, non-ferrous metals (e.g., copper, aluminum) and their alloys

  • Forming dies: Used for bending, flanging, shallow drawing, and other forming processes

  • Imprinting dies: Used for coin, badge, jewelry, and other applications requiring high surface quality and dimensional accuracy

  • Wire drawing dies: Used for drawing metal wire

  • Critical components in progressive and compound dies

2. Cutting Tools and Measuring Instruments

  • Cutting tools: Suitable for manufacturing low-speed, small-feed cutting tools like reamers, taps, and thread rolling dies

  • Measuring instruments: Used to produce gauges, plug gauges, templates, and other measuring tools requiring high wear resistance and dimensional stability

3. Other Fixtures and Tooling

Wear-resistant liners, guide rails, slides, and other mechanical components requiring high wear resistance
