NM450
Qilu
NM450 wear resistant steel plate is a high-strength abrasion-resistant steel designed for demanding applications where resistance to impact, friction, and material wear is essential. With a nominal Brinell hardness of approximately 450 HBW, NM450 offers a strong combination of hardness, toughness, structural strength, and service durability.
Compared with conventional structural steel, NM450 abrasion resistant steel plate can provide significantly better resistance to surface wear, helping extend the operating life of equipment exposed to abrasive materials. It is widely used in mining, construction, quarrying, material handling, cement, recycling, and heavy-duty machinery.
Qilu Steel supplies NM450 steel plate in various thicknesses, widths, and lengths according to customer requirements. Cutting, surface treatment, heat treatment, and customized dimensions can also be arranged for different fabrication needs.

NM450 is designed for ease of fabrication:
Cutting: Suitable for laser, plasma, and oxy-fuel cutting.
Welding: Excellent weldability with low preheat requirements. We recommend using low-hydrogen welding consumables to maintain the mechanical properties of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) .
Bending: Good cold bending properties ensure the plate can be formed into complex shapes without micro-cracking.
NM450 is ideal for high-wear environments in the following industries :
Dump truck bodies, buckets, excavator teeth, crusher liners, chutes, and hoppers.
Loader buckets, bulldozer blades, scraper plates, and concrete mixer drums.
Sintering plant chutes, fan blades, vibrating screens, and raw material handling equipment.
Coal grinding mills, pulverizer liners, and material conveying pipes.
Both NM400 and NM450 are commonly used wear-resistant steel grades, but their nominal hardness levels are different.
NM400 has a nominal hardness of approximately 400 HBW, while NM450 is approximately 450 HBW. Therefore, NM450 generally offers higher resistance to abrasive wear, while NM400 may provide a more balanced combination of wear resistance, toughness, and ease of fabrication for certain applications.
The choice between NM400 and NM450 depends on:
Abrasive material
Impact intensity
Required service life
Plate thickness
Fabrication method
Welding requirements
Equipment operating conditions
Overall project cost
If abrasion is particularly severe, NM450 may be a more suitable option. For applications requiring easier processing or greater toughness, NM400 may be considered.
A1: NM450 is the Chinese GB standard counterpart to Swedish Hardox 450, offering equivalent hardness and wear resistance .
A2: NM450 is a high-hardness wear-resistant steel plate with a nominal Brinell hardness of around 450 HBW. It is primarily used for equipment and components exposed to abrasive wear and impact.
A3: "NM" commonly refers to wear-resistant steel, while "450" represents the nominal hardness level of approximately 450 HBW.
A4: Yes. NM450 can be welded when an appropriate welding procedure is used. Preheating, interpass temperature, heat input, and welding consumables should be selected according to the plate thickness and application.
A5: Generally, yes. NM450 has a nominal hardness of approximately 450 HBW, compared with approximately 400 HBW for NM400.
A6: NM450 is commonly used in mining, construction, quarrying, cement, recycling, transportation, and heavy material handling.
